![]() Maybe Bear is great for you, maybe it isn’t.īut my main advice in considering is this: find out what works for you now, not what you think it might become or not, so it’s pointless to base it on that. We’re all different and we all have different needs. Don’t just take other’s word for it whether Bear is good or not (including me!). The only app I can see maybe replacing it for me is nvUltra, but it isn’t out yet and I don’t use software based on what could be, I use it based on what works for me, right now, and right now Bear works better than anyhing else for me.ĭoes this mean that Bear is right and worth it for you? Only you can answer that. Obsidian? Obsidian is slow and clunky, but yes, quite powerful. iA Writer strictly speaking has better typography, but lacks the same image integration and I can’t bring it up quickly. The app nvAlt is close and I used it for many years, but it lacks image support. ![]() I’ve tried many, but none come work anywhere near as well as Bear for me. Is it perfect? No, but right now nothing is as good as it. Is very fast to toggle to the front and then hide Specifically I want an note-taking app that is: It’s one of the most critical tools in my workflow. So yeah, for it easily is worth the price (investment is the wrong term here, software is never an investment, it’s not a house!).įor me a good efficient note taking app, wheter I’m at my Mac og using my iPhone when out and about is an important tool for thinking, organizing, note taking and more. You can try it out without sync without paying, but if you really want to get the full advantage of the app (which for me at least includes sync) you kind need to use subscription to truly test that.įor me Bear is currently easily the best note taking app by a long shot. That’s a very subjective question though and it depends on what the app does for you. ![]() Give it a trial run if you want, its like £1.70 for a month (UK), if you like it next month upgrade to yearly, if not cancel and try something else :) you can't really lose. Something more than "Its coming", Bear are tight lipped with features, the reason being is not to have to delay or cause undue hype I would imagine, but I also prefer working stable features over say Notion or Taskade which throws everything in. More themes, panic is amazing but I will get bored eventually.Ĭross platform ideally (I know they are a small team, so this is not really their fault). Has markdown, I am a convert and love markdown, especially on phones when I can just type the formatting I want.Īuto export, some way to sync my notes into a documents folder on iCloud, then I can pick them up without having to manually export them, this would solve 99% of my cross platform issues for me as I can use iA or Visual studio code to do MD. Has a watch app, I find this useful as sometimes I walk away from my phone in the office but need to reference a note quickly. It integrates well with my other apps, such as Spark and Things 3, you can shortcuts that will link a bear note to things 3 for tasks, which is nice.įor me, the sync is great, if I reinstall the app for example within 5 - 10 seconds everything is there ready and waiting as I left it, on any apple device. Its bloody cheap, roughly £17 p/y in the UK via Apple, not sure about you, but that really is not a lot of money (I tend to buy subscriptions on yearly basis after the initial trials if I like them), however it is a subscription, iA writer would pay for its self in 2/3 years with continued support, but either or its not much. The app is beautiful, especially on my Pro Max using Panic theme, it makes looking at notes a joy, I'm currently testing iA writer on the side (its cross platform) and I enjoy bear from a UI experience much more. Worth it yes, if your heavily in the Apple ecosystem (I use 90% apple, 10% Windows for work), otherwise you may struggle to use bear, this is my main downside, I crave a web app (which apparently is coming).
